About Izaña Atmospheric Research Center
The Izaña Atmospheric Research Center (CIAI) is located at the summit of Mount Izaña, on the island of Tenerife, at an altitude of 2,367 meters above sea level. This center is essential for the study of the atmosphere and climate change, thanks to its location in an area with exceptionally stable atmospheric conditions and one of the clearest skies in the world. The CIAI is part of the National Meteorology Institute of Spain and houses various high-precision instruments for measuring greenhouse gases, aerosols, solar radiation, ozone, and other atmospheric components. Its research is crucial for understanding atmospheric processes and their influence on the climate at a global level.
The Izaña Center collaborates closely with international scientific institutions and global observation networks, providing essential data for air quality monitoring and climate model development. Additionally, its strategic geographical location allows for monitoring the influence of African atmospheric phenomena, such as Saharan dust, on the climate and human health in the Canary Islands and other regions of the Atlantic.
